On Thursday 6th September, 6 cyclists from Sagacity Solutions will compete in the Cyclothon at Brands Hatch. The cyclists include Ben Hodge, Johnny Rice, Martin Johnson, Teddy Middlebrook, Harry Dougall and Brian Townshend, who have trained for months to prepare for this challenging event. They will compete in the 12-hour race where the aim is to complete as many circuits of the 2.4-mile race track, famous for holding the British Grand Prix between 1964 and 1986.
This event is not only popular with eager cyclists, but also former England rugby players, who will compete side to side with our cyclists. Last year these rugby players included Victor Ubogu, Lee Mears, Mike Tindall, John Hall, Mark Regan, Rory Underwood, Phil de Glanville and many more.
The cyclists are competing in the Cyclothon to raise money for the Anthony Nolan Charity who help people with blood cancer and blood disorders who desperately need lifesaving transplants. They do this by matching individuals willing to donate their blood stem cells or bone marrow to people who desperately need these transplants.
Every year, Anthony Nolan spends an immense amount of money on gathering stem cell samples, maintaining its huge database and matching donors to people who need the transplants. Sagacity Solutions have already donated £2,250 to help this worthy cause and hope to raise more to help maintain the charity and allow Anthony Nolan to grow its database of donors so more people can conquer cancer.
Two thirds of people that need a transplant can’t get a donation from their own family so can only rely on a stranger to donate the required blood marrow or blood stem cells. Without Anthony Nolan, these donations would not be possible.
