On Wednesday 28th April, our CEO Anita Dougall was a guest speaker at the Landor Dining Society of King’s High School, Warwick. The Landor Dining Society is a prestigious society that invites highly regarded speakers into the school to give a speech on their areas of expertise.
Gigi Thomas, the Chair of the society, chose to invite Anita so that she could share her wisdom and story with the students to help them prepare for their future careers. She said, “It was an honour to hear Anita talk. I thought that she would motivate many students to follow their own path in life, and how to conquer any setbacks that they come across.”
Gigi’s journey to Landor Dining Society Chair is slightly less conventional as she was born in London but began her schooling life in Warwickshire. She swapped the English countryside for the Australian beachside in 2012 by moving to Melbourne where she took up triathlon and surf lifesaving. A few years later, she was back in England attending secondary school and furiously catching up with her peers! She’s an avid learner and has always been keen to embrace every opportunity. This led to gaining an Amateur Radio Licence, qualifications from a Foreign Language Leaders Award programme and becoming a member of the National Youth Board for the Diana Award. Now, like many others in the society, business studies is a keen interest whilst at King’s High School, and listening to experienced businesspeople talk was going to be extremely valuable.
With A-Level Business Studies a common theme among the attendees, the society were looking forward to welcoming a role model they could relate to, and were extremely keen to hear what Anita had to say about navigating a thriving career before founding Sagacity, back in 2005. Anita’s talk was split into sections, with the first part focusing on her journey to success which was divided into each decade. She talked about her early life and her university studies before talking about her goals for the future. The next section focused on Sagacity where many students, with their business studies heads on, were keen to learn more.
Anita concluded her talk with some words of wisdom instilling confidence, perseverance and a dedication to achieving one’s goals. She encouraged the society to take every opportunity they can, build a network of capable people and always strive higher than your ability.
The Chair went on to say, “I can say with absolute certainty that we achieved our goal. Every student that attended this amazing talk was blown away at how inspiring Anita was. She was an inspiration and enlightened the students on future careers, the world of business and gave some amazing life advice. A big thank you to Anita for joining us and presenting her talk!”
