The impact of Revenue Leakage on UK Business
Revenue leakage is a well-known, little understood, and significant financial issue. Very few operational processes are inherently immune from its impacts, with several seemingly trivial issues compounding over time to chip away at profits, putting immense strain on business performance. To get a deeper understanding of the causes and scale of revenue leakage, we surveyed 200 senior decision makers who have responsibility for managing profit and loss about their experiences and views. We focused on businesses in the telecoms, insurance, water, and energy sectors. The survey showed that revenue leakage is having a profound effect on the bottom line.
On average, UK businesses estimate that 5.87% of revenues remain uncollected each year - equating to £244 billion of annual losses. That is a huge amount of money leaked and lost each year but with often little dedicated resource or understanding of how to fix the issues, poor process and lack of controls and governance will continue to detrimentally impact the bottom line.
